Online anti-piracy action in Hungary

18th June 2010

Police in Hungary have seized 58 machines, some of them tracker servers and others seed servers, in several server hotels and at a technical college in an action against various online piracy operations.

The raids, carried out on 16th and 18th June by the Budapest Police Department, followed complaints by Pro-Art (the Hungarian Copyright Alliance) and by the local film industry. A police statement said that infringing content was found on some of the servers, which have a total capacity of 500 terabytes, including data allegedly being used to illegally distribute thousands of copyrighted works via the largest local and international torrent sites.
