US motion picture and recording industries file suit against MusicCity

Statement by Jay Berman, Chairman and CEO of IFPI

London, October 3, 2001

"The international recording industry wholeheartedly supports the action announced today by the MPA and RIAA against MusicCity and other unauthorised internet services. Once again the recording industry has been reluctantly obliged to take legal action against services that seek to build a commercial business by infringing copyright. We take no pleasure in this litigation, but our industry's efforts to launch legitimate on-line services in the weeks ahead require it."
