New year - new appointments for IFPI

January 23, 2001 - IFPI has confirmed two new appointments to its staff, in Moscow and London. Igor Pozhitkov has joined as Regional Director for Russia & CIS, and Keith Jopling has become Director of Market Research at the IFPI Secretariat in London

Pozhitkov is a Russian lawyer with an extensive background in intellectual property and commercial law. As head of IFPI's office in Moscow, he will spearhead the organisation's legislative, lobbying and anti-piracy priorities in the region. He formally took up his appointment with IFPI on 15 January 2001.

Pozhitkov has worked for major international law firms in Moscow, the most recent being the US law firm Baker & McKenzie. His experience includes working for a number of clients in the entertainment industry. Previously, he worked on international issues for the Russian copyright agencies (VAAP and RAIS). Pozhitkov studied law in Moscow and London, and has published numerous articles on intellectual property issues.

Keith Jopling has moved to IFPI from Novartis Pharmaceuticals, where he was Market Research Manager. Prior to that, he was a management consultant for six years, first with Anderson Consulting and then with Newchurch & Co, a specialist consultancy in healthcare. Jopling, a graduate in Management Science, joined IFPI in December.

Heading the IFPI's market research team, Jopling will manage the organisation's statistical reporting and oversee regular publications such as the annual Recording Industry in Numbers and World Sales reports. The department is also responsible for researching and compiling data on physical and internet piracy.

IFPI represents the international recording industry, its membership comprising more than 1,400 record producers and distributors in over 70 countries.
